Terms of Use

What this site is

A publication of general information about how personal legal documents must be executed, and a way to request an on-site notarization appointment in California. Using it means accepting the terms below.

No legal advice, no relationship

Nothing here is legal advice, and using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship or any professional relationship beyond a notarization appointment you actually book. Michael Seutin is a notary public, not an attorney. The disclaimer sets this out in full and forms part of these terms.

Accuracy and currency

Requirements differ by state and change. Pages carry the date their content was last verified. Reasonable care is taken, but no guarantee is given that any page reflects the law as it stands today, or that a given document will be accepted by a particular institution. Decisions that matter deserve a check against the current statute or a licensed attorney.

Appointments and fees

An appointment exists once a fee has been quoted and agreed. The notarial act is capped by California Government Code section 8211 at $15 per signature; travel and convenience fees are separate, are not notarial fees, and are disclosed and agreed before travel. A notarization may be refused where the law requires refusal — identification is insufficient, the signer does not appear to understand the act, or the signer is not acting willingly.

Content

The writing on this site is its own work and may not be republished wholesale. Quoting a passage with a link back is welcome.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the State of California.
